Announcement of Recruitment for GKS Scholarship 2021
Ministry of Education The National Institute of International Education starts recruiting foreign students for GKS Excellent Scholarship 2021 as follows. We hope that many foreign students enrolled in Domestic Universities (including technical colleges) will apply.

1. Purpose
◦ Establishment of a foundation for continuous attraction of international students by providing scholarship to outstanding students studying abroad to motivate achievement and raise positive awareness of Korea;
2. Number of Selection:
◦ Up to 30 students can be recommended by each university 250 students nationwide (Undergraduate students of Korean Universities)
3. Scholarship Application Details
◦ Application Details: 5 mln KRW (500,000 KRW per months) Beneficiary Period: From March 2021 to December 12th 2021 (10 months)
4. Eligibility:
◦ The Applicant must meet all the following conditions
- However, beneficiary of the existing two outstanding scholarships cannot apply.
① As of March, foreign students who have completed 2 or more semesters while enrolled in undergraduate program at domestic universities (including technical colleges)
- Students who has remaining at least two semesters, EXCLUDING those who are on leave of absence or expected to take one, those who are expected to graduate, Exchange or expected to go abroad.

※ Transfer students can apply if they have attended at least 2 semester in domestic university.
※ Except those who has no credit acquisition, Graduate students, and students enrolled in Cyber Universities
※ Except those beneficiaries of similar scholarships (meaning that they receive support for living expenses and the amount exceeds 500,000 won per month) provided by the government, universities or other institutions |
② Average of 80 points out of 100 during the entire enrollment period
③ Average of 80 or more out of 100 in the previous semester
④ Korean Language Proficiency (TOPIK) level 4 or above (expired certificate not accepted)
※ 2021.1.1. Korean Language Proficient Test (TOPIK) certificate within 5 years only (expiration date of 2 years is not applied temporarily due to cancellation of TOPIK test in relation of COVID-19)
5. Application Process and Documents
◦ Application method: Online
- Support system (access address): Study in Korea Comprehensive System (www.studyinkorea.go.kr)
- Online application period: 2021.2.2.(Tue) 09:00 ~ 2.23.(Tue) 18:00
- Process: Membership registration → Online application → Print out Application Form → Submit the required documents to Global Center (W7) R320, 「Until February 23rd (Tue) 18:00」
◦ Loss of scholarship
① Scholarship Selected students will loose qualification of scholarship in the event of a falsehood check or academic change (early graduation, less credit acquisition in the first semester, etc)
* In case of false acquisitions, urgent measures will be taken
② Scholarship recipients must obtain at least 80 points in their enrolled semester even after the selection to benefit from scholarship for the next semester.
③ Vacancies due to the loss of scholarship will not be filled separately.
◦ Required Document to be Submitted
① Copy of recommended application (print from the system after online application)
② Copy of passport
③ certificate of Enrollment and Transcript (Grades of entire semesters)
※ Transfer students, the entire semester transcript issued by the previous university (domestic university) must also be submitted.
※ In principle, the transcript is issued with the “100 points conversion score”.
If the grades of the previous semester are required to be revised “100 points converted”, make sure university officials stamp and sign.
④ Copy of TOPIK score report (within 5 years, based on January 1st 2021)
※ University officials stamp and sign to confirm original copy (original copy from TOPIK website is accepted)
⑤ One copy of evidence of overseas Korean (only relevant person)
※ certificate of overseas Korean issued by the diplomatic mission (selection preference)
⑥ One copy of cover letter and academic plan (written in Korean)
◦ Notice
① The English name of the applicant must be the same as passport
② Application and other required document must be A4 format
③ Applications must be made through applicants’ university
